Introduction

Hi all! Here is a list with some in depth information about everything that you need to do in order to get set up for undertaking online tuition with me. So, let’s get into it! If you find throughout your set up that you have absolutely any questions at all, please feel free to let me know and as always I would be more than happy to help if I can!

Set yourself up on Teams.

I have decided to use Teams as the video call service for my online tuition. So you will need to set yourself up an account on Teams ready for tuition. Teams can be used as an application on many different devices or just on your browser. I recommend looking into Teams if you are not familiar with it, and getting to know it, from my experience with the software is relatively user friendly which is nice! Once, you are set up, we will need to add each other as contacts in order to have video calls. Your details will be collected, so that I can add you as a contact, during the registration form, but if your setting Teams up later, just text them across to me and I'll add you as a contact on there. Once I have added you on Teams please accept me so that I know this has been done correctly.

Set me up as a payee ready for bank transfer or make other appropriate arrangements with me.

You will need to set me up as a payee ready for bank transfer in order to make payments for lessons. The price for online tuition is  exactly the same as face to face tuition. Please pay for lessons before the lesson ends. My bank transfer details can be found on the pinned post on TutorBird.  Also make sure that in the bank transfer reference that you put something which I can easily recognise you by, that preferably being the student’s initials with the word tutoring after it eg. GRS Tutoring, otherwise it makes it difficult for me to tell who has made the payment. If you would rather not pay via bank transfer, please feel free to let me know and we can always try to come to some form of cash arrangement regarding payment.

Set yourself up a suitable space at home ready for online tuition.

It is important for the student to have an appropriate work space at home for the duration of the online lesson in order to make the most out of the time we have and so that they can fully concentrate. Here are some suggestions that it may be good to consider:

• Is the space quiet / comfortable / private?
• Sitting at a desk may be preferable for writing?
• Do you have all of the correct equipment ready? (device, microphone, camera, exercise book, stationary, calculator, etc.)
• A bigger screen may be best if possible in order to easily see my virtual whiteboard?
• Is the internet working correctly / optimally?

Don't forget that lessons must always be kept private, so please make sure that lessons are always undertaken somewhere that no one else but yourselves can observe.

Set yourself up on IXL (optional).

This is an optional but highly recommended step. IXL is the online mathematics system that I use for my tuition with regards to revision and homework, and all of the information that I have written up for it can be found on the webpage below. This will make online tuition much easier, as it is another online resource that myself and the student can work on together. There are huge benefits with regard to using IXL that you may be missing out on, so it's definitely worth asking me for an account! Don't forget, don't pay for anything on IXL as I already pay for my students to have accounts with me.

And that’s everything! I always try to make things as simple as possible for my clients and  students in terms of anything involving set up for tuition, however unfortunately for online tuition there is a bit of set up required here. Please complete all of these elements way in advance of any lessons as that then gives me the opportunity to get everything organised as well meaning we can get into lessons straight away!
