Hello there! My name is Geraint Rhys Sibley and welcome to GRS Maths Tutoring! I am an experienced private mathematics tutor, with a first class degree in mathematics, a PGCE and an enhanced DBS certificate, who tutors under the banner of GRS Maths Tutoring. I have been tutoring since September 2018 from a bespoke classroom in my home in Kenfig Hill, Bridgend, South Wales, offering face to face, online, one to one and group tuition, up to and including KS4 as well as additional maths. I provide a minimum of 24 hours of lessons per week and endeavour to offer further opportunities to those on my waiting list during holidays, inset days etc. I pride myself on providing a service that offers a unique and personalised experience that is targeted towards students’ respective needs.
A unique aspect of my service is the custom classroom I have created within my home, which offers a safe and confidential environment where students can concentrate. To inspire students within the space, I have built an extensive bank of quality resources which aid learning, including but not limited to: revision guides, workbooks, posters, websites and online interactive paid services offered free of charge. I also employ a creative use of up to date technology to engage students further. To provide more access to my services, my classroom has also been modified for online tuition, providing clients with flexibility. This space is invaluable to providing a service where students feel comfortable.
Running a tuition business means it is imperative that I communicate effectively with clients. Firstly, I insist that all clients have a free introduction meeting which involves an in depth discussion allowing me to put students at ease and address any questions or concerns. When asked by new enquiries, I have embraced the challenges of adapting for different exam boards and key stages. I also take this opportunity to discuss important terms and conditions i.e. safeguarding and data protection etc. Once lessons have commenced, I keep a student progress log, keeping track of and commenting on every lesson I undertake. I provide regular feedback and, outside of tutoring hours, respond promptly to any enquires and update all the necessary admin required to run a successful business.
To ensure my students make significant progress, I employ a number of innovative strategies to make learning maths fun and enjoyable. One of the greatest barriers to learning maths can be students’ mindsets and a lack of confidence towards the subject. To address this, I aspire to provide consistent positive feedback to the student and client instilling the belief that they can conquer their goals in maths and even other areas of learning. My lessons are interactive, they are not just lectures but a conversation, where students take more ownership over their education and play an important part in their own learning, gaining independence.
Creating a relationship between student and tutor is also critical to a student’s growth. The culture I promote is one where students feel comfortable, offering a safe space where students can always feel free to ask questions and stop to address any concerns. This offers an opportunity that students may not get in a standard classroom setting. Working with a range of students from various backgrounds and with different abilities means constantly adapting, changing methods / pedagogy and tailoring my lessons to suit every individual. This involves covering theory, methods, ability to recall, setting homework and most importantly practice. I also ensure that I cater to individuals that may have additional learning needs, closely working with the client to provide customised and effective lessons. My inclusive tutoring means that all students, regardless of their initial ability, are offered the opportunity to achieve or even surpass their targets and that they leave feeling proud of themselves.
As demonstrated by my numerous positive Facebook and Google reviews, it is evident that I have a proven track record of success and in delivering the values I originally set out to achieve. Tutoring is an incredibly rewarding experience as I get to reframe students’ perceptions of maths and foster an enjoyment of the subject, inspiring students to revise and work diligently. I am proud to have had a powerful impact on students’ lives and will continue to grow and improve on the strong foundation that I have already established.
